Karaikudi, Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu
Alagappa Chettiar Government College of Engineering and Technology in Karaikudi, established in 1952, owes its existence to the philanthropist Dr Alagappa Chettiar, whose endowments built much of the town's educational infrastructure. It is a government institution in the Chettinad region of Tamil Nadu, holds an A grade from NAAC, and admits through the state's TNEA counselling, where its combination of very low fees and a long-established name makes it a sought-after choice below the Anna University campus colleges. The core branches — mechanical, civil, electrical, electronics and computer science — are its bread and butter, backed by decades of alumni in Tamil Nadu industry and government service. Karaikudi is a heritage town, quiet and inexpensive. It suits Tamil Nadu students prioritising a reputed government seat over urban location.
