Ashoka University

Ashoka University, established in 2014 at Sonepat on Delhi's northern edge, is the most prominent attempt to build an American-style liberal arts university in India, funded collectively by a large group of entrepreneur-philanthropists rather than a single promoter. Its undergraduate model is distinctive: students take broad foundation courses before choosing majors, and the faculty in economics, political science, English and history includes scholars recruited from leading universities abroad. It holds an A grade from NAAC. The fully residential campus sits in the Rajiv Gandhi Education City, with Delhi accessible for internships and cultural life. Fees are among the highest in Indian undergraduate education, offset by substantial need-based financial aid. It suits academically ambitious students who want small-class, writing-intensive humanities and social sciences, and often a pathway to postgraduate study overseas.
