Dibrugarh, Dibrugarh, Assam
Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh, established in 1947, is the oldest medical college in north-eastern India, descended from the earlier Berry White Medical School, and it remains the principal referral hospital for Upper Assam and neighbouring areas. Its history and catchment are the draw: students train on a heavy, varied caseload that includes conditions characteristic of the region, within a government institution whose alumni populate the Northeast's health services. The college holds a NIRF rank of 47 and an A grade from NAAC. MBBS is the core, with established postgraduate departments in general medicine and general surgery and a nursing programme. Dibrugarh is a modest tea-belt city, well connected by air and rail within the region. Admission is through NEET at government fees. It suits students from Assam and the wider Northeast seeking high-volume public-sector training.
