Mesra, Ranchi, Jharkhand
Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, founded in 1955 by industrialist B. M. Birla, is a deemed university on a forested campus outside Ranchi with a distinctive academic history: it was an early Indian centre for space engineering and rocketry education, and its pharmacy school is also long established, alongside the engineering mainstream where computer science now dominates demand. The institute holds a NIRF rank of 47 and an A grade from NAAC. Admission to undergraduate engineering is through JEE Main, unusual for a private deemed university and a sign of its national intake. Its alumni network in engineering and aerospace circles is deep for an institution of its size. The campus is residential and self-contained, with Ranchi's amenities a ride away. It suits students wanting a pedigreed private institute with serious technical culture.
