Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute

Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute is a private deemed university in Chennai, established in 1988, that has grown into a multi-faculty institution spanning medicine, dentistry, engineering, pharmacy and management — reflected in its unusually broad approvals from UGC, AICTE, NMC and DCI. Its health-sciences side, anchored by its own medical and dental teaching, is what distinguishes it from Chennai's many engineering-only private universities. The university holds a NAAC 'A' grade. Chennai gives students a large industrial and hospital ecosystem for internships, and the deemed-university structure means admissions and fees are set by the institution, at private rates. It suits students who want a single large private campus with health-science and technical options under one roof, and who weigh Chennai's job market into their decision.
