Solan, Solan, Himachal Pradesh
Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry at Nauni, near Solan, established in 1985, was India's first university devoted specifically to horticulture and forestry, and that specialisation is still what defines it. Recognised by the ICAR and graded 'A' by NAAC, it trains students for careers in forestry services, horticultural research, orchard and plantation management, and allied agri-business — fields where Himachal Pradesh's fruit-growing economy provides a living laboratory. The campus sits among the Solan hills, with orchards, nurseries and forest research areas forming part of daily academic life. Fees follow the state agricultural-university pattern. It suits students genuinely committed to forestry or horticulture — including aspirants for Indian Forest Service and ICAR research routes — rather than those seeking a general science degree.
