Great Lakes Institute of Management was founded in 2004 by the academic Bala V. Balachandran, long associated with the Kellogg School of Management, and operates from a residential campus on the coastal corridor south of Chennai. It is a standalone business school offering the PGDM and related programmes, with business analytics a specialisation it invested in earlier than most Indian schools. It holds an NIRF rank of 26 in the management category and carries an A++ grade from NAAC. The out-of-town campus makes for an immersive, fast-paced residential experience, with Chennai's corporate base within reach for projects and placements. Great Lakes suits graduates — particularly those with work experience considering its accelerated programme — who want an industry-connected, analytics-leaning management education outside the IIM system, and can manage private business-school fees.
