Goa College of Engineering at Farmagudi, Ponda, established in 1967, is the state's flagship government engineering college and the default destination for Goa's strongest engineering aspirants. Affiliated to Goa University and approved by AICTE, it offers the widest branch spread among Goan colleges, with computer science and information technology the most contested seats in state counselling; it holds a NAAC 'A' grade. The Farmagudi plateau campus is spacious by Goan standards, and government fees make it far cheaper than any private alternative in or outside the state. Its alumni dominate Goa's engineering services, utilities and industry. It suits Goan students who can secure a seat through the state's merit process and want the best-regarded, lowest-cost engineering education available without leaving Goa.
