Government Engineering College Barton Hill

Government Engineering College Barton Hill, established in 1999, occupies a hilltop site in the middle of Thiruvananthapuram, which makes it unusual among Kerala's government engineering colleges: students live inside the state capital, close to Technopark — one of India's larger IT campuses — and the city's research institutions. Affiliated to the state technological university and approved by AICTE, it admits through KEAM counselling at government fees and holds a NAAC 'A' grade. Computer science and electronics are its most contested branches, and the Technopark proximity translates into internships and placement access that district colleges struggle to match. The trade-off is a compact urban campus rather than sprawling grounds. It suits Kerala students who rank just below the top government colleges and want city location, low fees and IT-sector access.
