Government Kilpauk Medical College, established in 1960, is one of Chennai's cluster of government medical colleges, running its clinical training through the Kilpauk medical college hospital and allied government hospitals in the city, including a burns and plastic surgery service for which the Kilpauk campus is particularly known within Tamil Nadu. The college holds a NIRF rank of 48 and an A grade from NAAC. MBBS is the core programme, with postgraduate training in general medicine and general surgery and a nursing course. Chennai gives students the full advantages of a metro medical education — dense hospital networks, academic meetings and NEET-PG preparation resources — while government fees keep costs minimal. Admission is through NEET via the state's intensely competitive counselling. It suits students who want city-based, high-volume public-sector training within the Tamil Nadu system.
