Government Theni Medical College

Government Theni Medical College, established in 2006, serves the cardamom-hills fringe of western Tamil Nadu, near the Kerala border, as part of the state's programme of district government medical colleges. Its attached hospital is the referral centre for Theni district's plantation and agricultural population, so MBBS students see a caseload rich in rural and occupational health alongside general medicine and surgery, in which the college runs recognised postgraduate departments; nursing is also taught. Tamil Nadu's government medical colleges share a strong systemic reputation for clinical training, and Theni admits through NEET under state counselling at government fees. The town itself is small and inexpensive, set in attractive hill country. It suits Tamil Nadu NEET qualifiers who want the state's public medical training model with heavy patient contact, away from the big cities.
