IIEST Shibpur

IIEST Shibpur traces its origin to 1856 as the Bengal Engineering College, which makes it one of the oldest engineering institutions in India. Now an Institute of National Importance funded by the central government, it occupies a leafy 86-acre riverside campus in Howrah, just across the Hooghly from central Kolkata, so students get a self-contained campus with a metropolis nearby. Admission to its undergraduate engineering programmes is through JEE Main, and its long history shows in a deep alumni base across Indian industry and public-sector engineering.
