IIIT Agartala

IIIT Agartala belongs to the newest generation of Indian Institutes of Information Technology, established in 2018 under the public-private partnership model in which the central government, the Tripura government and industry partners jointly fund the institute. It began operating from the NIT Agartala campus while its own infrastructure develops, so applicants should check current campus arrangements before joining. Teaching is focused on Computer Science and Engineering, with B.Tech admission through JEE Main and centralised counselling. IIITs under this scheme carry the status of Institutions of National Importance, so the degree has statutory recognition. The institute is small and young — close faculty interaction comes with a thin alumni network and developing facilities. It suits students whose JEE Main rank falls short of the NITs but who want a computing-focused public institution in the Northeast.
