IIIT Kancheepuram

IIITDM Kancheepuram, established in 2007 on Chennai's southern outskirts, is a centrally funded Institute of National Importance with a specific mandate: engineering education oriented towards design and manufacturing, blending product-design thinking into conventional B.Tech streams. Admission is through JEE Main and JoSAA counselling, with fees at central-institute levels. The campus is residential and close enough to Chennai's automotive and electronics manufacturing belt for internships and industry projects. As a younger institute it lacks the recruiter pull of the NIT system's upper tier, but the design-and-manufacturing focus genuinely differentiates its graduates in hardware and product roles. It holds a NIRF rank of 37 in engineering. It suits JEE Main candidates drawn to product development, hardware and manufacturing rather than purely software careers, and comfortable with a quieter campus at a metro's edge.
