Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad

IIT Palakkad, established in 2015, is Kerala's Indian Institute of Technology, with a 500-acre campus at Kanjikode near the Palakkad Gap, the low mountain pass that keeps the area well connected to Coimbatore across the state border. Like its peer institutes it is centrally funded, admits through JEE Advanced, and holds a NIRF rank of 48. As a newer IIT its cohorts are small, which translates into close faculty contact and easy access to labs and projects — attractive to students who would be one of thousands at an older IIT. Computer science draws the strongest ranks, with the standard core branches alongside. Palakkad is a quiet, affordable town, and campus life is largely self-made. It suits students who want the IIT system's rigour and brand and are comfortable helping build a young institution's culture.
