Thiruvananthapuram, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala
The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology at Valiamala, near Thiruvananthapuram, is a deemed university run under the Department of Space — effectively ISRO's own academic institution, and the only Indian institute built specifically to educate engineers for the space programme. Admission to its undergraduate programmes is through JEE Advanced, and the aerospace engineering stream is its signature, with avionics and computing alongside; historically, top-performing graduates have been considered for absorption into ISRO, a pathway unique to this institute. It holds a NIRF rank of 48 and an A+ grade from NAAC. The campus sits in the green outskirts of Kerala's capital, near ISRO facilities. It suits students genuinely committed to space technology and research careers, for whom proximity to the space programme outweighs the broader placement variety of an IIT or NIT.
