The National Institute of Industrial Engineering, on the hills beside Powai's lakes in Mumbai, has since been renamed the Indian Institute of Management Mumbai — recognition of what it always effectively was: a specialist management school. Its historic strength is operations, supply chain and industrial engineering, fields in which its graduates are a fixture in Indian manufacturing, logistics and consulting; the flagship postgraduate programmes sit alongside finance and general management. It holds an NIRF rank of 19 in the management category and a B++ NAAC grade. The compact campus shares Powai's academic neighbourhood with IIT Bombay, in one of Mumbai's better-connected suburbs, which keeps corporate interaction constant. It suits engineers who want a management degree with a hard quantitative, operations-led core rather than a generalist MBA, and who value Mumbai's industry access.
