National Institute of Technology Agartala

National Institute of Technology Agartala began life in 1965 as Tripura Engineering College and was later absorbed into the NIT system, which makes it older and larger than most of the Northeast's other NITs. It is the biggest technical institution in Tripura, with central funding, subsidised fees and admission through JEE Main and JoSAA; computer science and electronics attract the highest cutoffs. The institute holds an A grade from NAAC and a NIRF rank of 95. Its spacious campus lies outside Agartala, a small, affordable state capital near the Bangladesh border, so student life is campus-centred and placements rely on the NIT brand and remote recruitment rather than local industry. It suits students who want an established NIT at more attainable ranks and are untroubled by the distance from India's metros.
