Hazratbal, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir
National Institute of Technology Srinagar dates to 1960, beginning as a regional engineering college before joining the NIT system, and occupies a striking location in the Hazratbal area of Srinagar near Dal Lake. It teaches the core engineering branches — mechanical, electrical, electronics and computer science — with admission through JEE Main and centralised counselling, and centrally regulated fees. The institute holds a NIRF rank of 69 and an A grade from NAAC. Life here differs from other NITs: winters are cold, the academic calendar adjusts to the climate, and the setting is far quieter than metro institutes. The degree carries the same NIT recognition nationally. It suits students who accept the trade-off plainly — a nationally funded institute and its network, in a valley far from India's industrial corridors.
