National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand

NIT Uttarakhand is one of the newer National Institutes of Technology, set up in 2009 when the NIT system was expanded so that every state would have a centrally funded engineering institute. It sits in Srinagar in the Garhwal Himalaya, a small university town on the Alaknanda river — a quiet, low-cost setting far from any metro, suited to students who want a focused residential experience rather than city life. Admission to its B.Tech programmes, with Computer Science and Electronics & Communication in highest demand, runs through JEE Main and JoSAA counselling, and the degree carries the NIT name recruiters recognise nationally. The institute holds a NIRF ranking of 93 and a B++ grade from NAAC. Cohorts are smaller than at older NITs, which means closer faculty contact but a younger alumni network and still-developing infrastructure.
