Jalgaon, Jalgaon, Maharashtra
North Maharashtra University in Jalgaon — since renamed after the poet Bahinabai Chaudhari — is the state university serving the northern districts of Maharashtra, including Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar. Established in 1990, it carries an A grade from NAAC and functions in the classic state-university mould: a teaching campus with postgraduate departments plus a large network of affiliated colleges across the region. Its strengths for a prospective student are affordability and reach — degrees in arts and humanities subjects such as English and economics at government-scale fees, with the university's recognition standing behind colleges in smaller towns. Jalgaon itself is a mid-sized commercial town, cheaper to live in than Pune or Mumbai but with a thinner private job market. It suits students from the region who want a recognised state degree without relocating to a metro.
