Sector 12, Chandigarh, Chandigarh
Punjab Engineering College traces its founding to 1921 in Lahore, moving to Chandigarh after Partition, which makes it one of India's older engineering institutions — its alumni include the astronaut Kalpana Chawla. Now carrying deemed-university status, it occupies a 145-acre campus in Chandigarh's institutional belt, near Panjab University. Admission is through JEE Main and JoSAA counselling, with fees moderate for a centrally backed institution, and the traditional core branches sit alongside computer science, which draws the tightest closing ranks. Chandigarh itself is an orderly, green and safe student city. The college holds a NIRF rank of 55 in engineering and an A NAAC grade. It suits JEE Main candidates in the north who value heritage, alumni depth and city quality of life over the branding of a mid-tier NIT.
