Puducherry, Puducherry, Puducherry
Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences, on the coast north of Puducherry town, is a private medical college established in 2000 and run as a Christian minority institution under the Madras Medical Mission, the Chennai-based hospital trust. It is recognised by the National Medical Commission, holds an A grade from NAAC, and teaches MBBS alongside nursing, with admissions through NEET and the applicable counselling channels. As a mission-run college it combines private-sector infrastructure with a service-oriented hospital culture, and its teaching hospital serves the surrounding coastal villages as well as the town. Puducherry is a compact, pleasant place to spend the long medical course, with lower living costs than Chennai. Fees sit well above government colleges, as at any private medical school, so it suits students who miss government cutoffs but want an established, ethically run private option in the south.
