Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit

Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit was founded in 1993 at Kalady in Ernakulam district — the birthplace of Adi Shankaracharya — as Kerala's state university for Sanskrit, Indian languages, philosophy and the humanities, and it operates through its main campus and regional centres across the state. Despite the name, its teaching is broader than Sanskrit alone: English, economics, history and political science run at undergraduate and postgraduate level alongside the classical disciplines, all at state-university fees. It holds UGC recognition and an A grade from NAAC. The Kalady campus offers a quiet, culturally resonant setting on the Periyar's banks, within reach of Kochi's urban conveniences. It suits students drawn to languages, humanities and classical studies — including those eyeing research, teaching or civil-services preparation — rather than professional or technical careers, and it remains one of India's few universities of its kind.
