Ichchhanath, Surat, Gujarat
Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, established in 1961, is Surat's centrally funded engineering institute, admitting undergraduates through JEE Main. Its teaching strength runs through the core branches — mechanical, civil and electronics — alongside the computer science programme that now attracts the highest ranks. The institute holds an NIRF rank of 25 and an A grade from NAAC. Surat is one of Gujarat's principal commercial cities, built on diamonds and textiles, with a fast-growing economy and cheap living, though it is not a traditional student city and campus life is correspondingly self-contained. Fees follow the subsidised NIT structure. SVNIT suits JEE Main qualifiers wanting a centrally funded institute with an established engineering reputation in western India, particularly those keeping both core-sector and software options open.
