Bhadson Road, Patiala, Punjab
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology was founded in 1956 by the industrialist Karam Chand Thapar, making it one of India's older private technical institutions, now a deemed university. Engineering is the whole identity: computer science, electronics and mechanical engineering are its principal draws, and the institute has invested in international academic partnerships and modern teaching blocks on its 262-acre Patiala campus. It holds an NIRF rank of 24 and an A+ grade from NAAC. Patiala is a mid-sized Punjab city — quieter and cheaper than the NCR, with campus life correspondingly central to the student experience. Fees are private-sector, well above government institutes. Thapar suits students with strong but not top-tier JEE Main scores who want an established engineering brand, residential campus life and a large alumni network in northern India.
