Belagavi, Belagavi, Karnataka
Visvesvaraya Technological University, established in 1998 with its headquarters at Belagavi, is the affiliating university for the great majority of Karnataka's engineering colleges — which means most engineering students in the state, from Bengaluru's private colleges to district-town institutions, graduate with a VTU degree. Prospective students therefore experience VTU chiefly through its common syllabus, examinations and grading, while the choice that actually shapes their education is the individual affiliated college. The university also runs its own postgraduate programmes, including management, and holds an A++ grade from NAAC. Its degree is instantly recognised by recruiters across south India's technology industry. It suits students planning engineering in Karnataka who want to understand the system behind their college; the college's own faculty, placement record and location remain the decisive variables.
