Medical Colleges Accepting NEET Scores Below 500 — Realistic Options 2026

Not every medical aspirant scores 650+ in NEET. With a 400-500 score, you still have several private and deemed medical colleges where MBBS admission is possible.

By SeekCampus Team•March 8, 2026•7 min read

NEET UG 2024 had a cutoff of ~720 for government MBBS seats in top states — incredibly competitive. But over 60% of MBBS seats in India are in private/deemed colleges where cutoffs are much lower. If your NEET score is 400-500, here are realistic paths to MBBS.

Score Ranges and Options

NEET Score
Possible Paths

|------------|----------------|

650+
AIIMS, JIPMER, top government MBBS
600-650
Mid-tier government MBBS (state quota)
550-600
Top private MBBS, NRI quota tier-1
500-550
Mid-tier private MBBS
400-500
Lower-tier private/deemed MBBS, BDS, BAMS
300-400
BDS, BAMS, BHMS, nursing

Private Medical Colleges Accepting 400-500 NEET Scores

Management Quota (not state counseling)

  • **Kasturba Medical College, Manipal (MAHE)** — Deemed
  • - Fee: ₹16.5 L/yr (~₹90L total MBBS)

    - NEET cutoff: ~500 (management)

    - Why: Best deemed MBBS in India, excellent internship

  • **D.Y. Patil Medical College, Pune**
  • - Fee: ₹22 L/yr

    - NEET cutoff: ~450 (management)

  • **Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Karad**
  • - Fee: ₹18 L/yr

    - NEET cutoff: ~400

  • **Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College, Pune**
  • - Fee: ₹21 L/yr

    - NEET cutoff: ~450

  • **SRM Medical College, Chennai**
  • - Fee: ₹19 L/yr

    - NEET cutoff: ~420

State Private Counseling (cheaper than management)

Depending on state counseling rules, these accept 400-500 scores:

Tamil Nadu:— several private colleges under state quota (₹4-5 L/yr)
Karnataka:— 30-40% state quota in private colleges (₹6-12 L/yr)
Maharashtra:— CET cell counseling (₹7-10 L/yr)

    Alternative: BDS, BAMS, BHMS

If MBBS isn't feasible at your score:

    BDS (Dentistry)

  • NEET cutoff: 250-400
  • Government: Maulana Azad (₹50k/yr)
  • Private: ₹4-8 L/yr
  • Scope: Private practice, government dentist, MDS
  • BAMS (Ayurveda)

  • NEET cutoff: 200-350
  • Government: Banaras Hindu University, Jamnagar Ayurveda (₹30k/yr)
  • Fast-growing in wellness/natural medicine space
  • BHMS (Homeopathy)

  • NEET cutoff: 150-300
  • Widely available, private practice is common income path
  • Should You Retake NEET?

If you scored 400-500 and can afford a drop year:

Worth it if::Strong commitment, identified weak areas, budget for coaching
Skip drop year if::Family pressure, no clear study plan, decent fit in current options
  • NEET retakers improve by 150-200 marks on average with serious prep
  • Red Flags to Avoid

Some institutions take huge donations and deliver poor education. Before applying:

  • Check MCI/NMC recognition (nmc.org.in)
  • Verify clinical hospital attached
  • Check past 3-year internship completion rates
  • Avoid colleges without NABH hospital accreditation
  • Use SeekCampus to filter medical colleges by NEET score range and state — we list 291 medical colleges with verified data.
