Gandhigram Rural Institute

The Gandhigram Rural Institute near Dindigul in Tamil Nadu, founded in 1956 by followers of Gandhi, is a deemed university built explicitly around rural higher education — its teaching and outreach are organised around village development, and that mission remains its defining feature rather than a slogan. It holds an A grade from NAAC. Alongside this orientation it teaches conventional arts subjects, with English and economics among the undergraduate and postgraduate routes.
