Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya

Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, on the banks of the Ganga at Haridwar, was founded in the gurukula tradition by Swami Shraddhananda to revive Vedic learning alongside modern subjects, and it has held deemed-to-be-university status since 1962. That heritage still defines the campus: Sanskrit, Vedic studies and Indian traditions of knowledge sit beside conventional arts and science departments, and campus life is more austere and disciplined than at a typical university. It holds an A grade from NAAC, and fees are low. Haridwar is a major pilgrimage city, inexpensive to live in and well connected to Delhi and Dehradun. The university suits students drawn to its cultural and philosophical environment — particularly for the humanities and Indian-knowledge disciplines — rather than those seeking corporate placements or a cosmopolitan campus.
