Vadodara, Vadodara, Gujarat
The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, established in 1949 from the educational institutions built by Vadodara's reformist Gaekwad rulers, is unusual among Gujarat's state universities in teaching primarily in English. Its Faculty of Fine Arts is nationally significant — one of the most respected art schools in the country — and the university's breadth runs from commerce and law through engineering to medicine. It holds an A+ grade from NAAC, and as a state university its fees are low. The campus's Indo-Saracenic buildings sit in the middle of Vadodara, a manageable, cultured city with a strong industrial belt nearby. It suits students who want an affordable, genuinely multidisciplinary public university with real strength in the arts, and an English-medium environment that draws students from across India.
