Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences (MGPGIHS)

Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences is the Puducherry government's dental institution, established in 1990, teaching BDS with degrees through Pondicherry University and approval from the Dental Council of India. Its significance is straightforward: government dental seats are scarce nationally, and this institute offers dentistry at public fees — a fraction of what private dental colleges charge — which makes its NEET cutoffs correspondingly demanding. It holds an A+ grade from NAAC, a strong accreditation for a government professional institution. Clinical training runs through its own dental hospital, which draws patients from across the union territory and neighbouring Tamil Nadu districts. Puducherry is a compact, affordable coastal town with a pleasant student life. The institute suits students committed to dentistry who are chasing one of the more economical routes into the profession in south India.
