Amravati, Amravati, Maharashtra
Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, established in 1983 and named after the wandering social reformer of Vidarbha, is the state university for western Vidarbha, anchoring higher education across Amravati and its neighbouring districts. It works in the standard state-university pattern: postgraduate teaching departments on its Amravati campus and a wide network of affiliated colleges through which most of its students actually study. Humanities subjects — English, economics, history, political science — are established at undergraduate and postgraduate level, at government-scale fees. It holds UGC recognition and an A grade from NAAC. Amravati is a modest, inexpensive city; the region's private job market is thin, and graduates aiming at corporate careers typically look to Pune or Nagpur afterwards. It suits students of western Vidarbha seeking an affordable, recognised degree close to home, particularly in the arts.
