Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, usually shortened to SKUAST-Jammu, is the Jammu division's state agricultural university, established in 1999 with its main campus at Chatha on the city's outskirts. It is recognised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research alongside UGC, which matters because ICAR accreditation governs the credibility of agriculture degrees and access to national research fellowships. Teaching and research concentrate on agriculture and allied sciences suited to the region — field crops, horticulture and animal sciences among them. The university holds an A grade from NAAC and a NIRF rank of 69. It suits students from Jammu and neighbouring states aiming at careers in agricultural research, state agriculture departments or agribusiness, where a public agricultural university degree remains the standard entry route.
