Tripura University

Tripura University, established in 1987 and later converted into a central university, is the state's principal institution of higher education, with its campus at Suryamaninagar just outside Agartala. Central status is its key practical advantage: fees are very low, admission runs through national processes such as CUET, and its degrees carry recognition well beyond the Northeast. Its teaching spans the sciences and humanities, with the basic sciences and regional studies among its steadier strengths, and it also anchors the state's college system. The university holds an A grade from NAAC. Agartala is a small, inexpensive capital near the Bangladesh border, and campus life is correspondingly quiet and residential.
