Kota, Kota, Rajasthan
Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University in Kota, established in 1987, is Rajasthan's state open university — a different proposition from a campus institution. It delivers education at a distance through printed and digital material, regional centres and study centres across the state, with flexible entry and the freedom to study alongside work or family responsibilities. Its programmes span the arts and humanities, including English, economics, history and political science at undergraduate and postgraduate level, at fees far below even conventional government colleges. Its A++ grade from NAAC is a notable endorsement of an open university's systems, and UGC recognition makes the degrees valid for government employment and further study. There is no campus life, placement cell or laboratory-heavy provision to speak of. It suits working adults, rural students and second-chance learners across Rajasthan who need a legitimate, low-cost degree on their own schedule.
